February Meeting
Demo: Brian Phillips

We are excited to bring Austin Artist, Brian Phillips, to Wimberley as our February Demo Artist.

Brian has a deliberately short Bio although he's been painting all his life:

I get bored, so I create things to keep from going sane.
I am a self-taught artist.
My work is in collections all over the world.
I’ve had solo shows in Ohio and Indiana and also participated in group shows in Georgia.
I now reside in Austin, Texas.

Meetings are held in the Wimberley Community Center. Come at 6:30 for snacks and conversation and to vote on the Artist of the Month submissions. The meeting starts at 7:00.

Arts Fest 2012

Feb. 15 deadline to apply to our juried show

On Saturday, April 28, the Wimberley Square will be rocking with arts patrons visiting the 4th annual Wimberley Arts Fest from 10:00 to 5:00. Sales of artwork in 2011 more than doubled the previous year, as attendance grew to around 4,500.

The Arts Fest welcomes applications to the juried show from artists working in all media: oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media; ceramics; sculpture; fiber art; jewelry; wood, and more. Juror is Bill Wiman, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of Texas.

The application to be juried is simple, the process for submitting images of the artist's typical work is easy, and fees are extremely reasonable. The Arts Fest retains no commission on art sales. But the Feb. 15 deadline is looming! Check out www.wimberleyartsfest.com, click Artist Forms.

You may also submit artwork for the Arts Fest 2012 commemorative poster, for which the winner receives an award of $300. This competition is open only to members of the Wimberley Valley Art League. Click Poster Art at www.wimberleyartsfest.com for submission form. If you would like to join WVAL (membership dues $35) go to www.wimberleyartleague.com, click Forms. Deadline for the poster competition is March 15.

I have talked to a few of you with "I'll think about it". The positions are: Vice President/President Elect, Publicity, Directory, Show & Sale, Studio Tour. Please let me know...we are all in this together.

Thank you,
Michelle Bauer
Vice President/President Elect

This is Edward Povey's forte, after designing and painting literally thousands of paintings which have found their way into private and corporate collections.

On the second day the class goes on an expedition in search of a landscape to paint, and the artists lay in the first coat "En plein air". They also take photographs of the chosen scene, under Edward's coaching. On the third day, back in the studio, the artists will work back into their paintings of the landscape, emphasizing what is strong, learning what to change, what to keep, enlarge, adjust or remove.
