The artists’ studio tour offered by The Wimberley Valley Art league (WVAL) scheduled for September 17/18 is an annual event popular with locals and visitors alike. From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days, in diverse locations through out the Wimberley area, more than a dozen talented artists will open the doors of their studios for a self-guided tour.

The roster of artists featured on the tour include: Painters: Bob Cook; Lillie Pell; DL Tolar; Betty Rhodes; Lillie Rowden; Deborah Elliott, Edward Povey and Lorrie Dunks. Plus jewelry Designers, Zanna James, Michelle Bauer, and Joerg Schwalfenberg. Tom Bender participates as a digital photo artist and the Old Oaks Ranch is showing its sculpture garden and fiber arts studio.

Tickets and a percentage of art sales benefit the WVAL, a non-profit organization, and its art education projects.

Tickets and maps will be available beginning September 10 at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center: $15 for adults and $7 for students. Tour information, 512-847-5911 or 512-847-7917.

Jean's new website: http://jeancrowart.com

We all know that artists profit greatly from a well designed dynamic website. It's easier and cheaper than many think to put up such a site and our own resident nerd, Bob Cook, will prove this by putting up an actual website for an actual artist (Jean Crow) in an hour. The site will include a biography, gallery of paintings, contact information, e commerce capability and a video demo. In an hour. Really. You can't miss this.

WVAL's First Photography Workshop

Janice MullenaxIn April, Hill Country professional photographer and instructor Chris Dietz led our first Fine Art Photography workshop. The 3-day class included classroom discussion at Chris' 9 acre facility in Driftwood each day followed by three field trips to apply what we had learned. The culmination was Chris' specialty: night "light painting" photography.

The attendees all had different experience levels and all benefited. The workshop will be given again and we hope to attract a new crop of WVAL attendees.
