Arts Fest Update!
Musical headliners join 70 artists for Arts Fest

When the Wimberley Art League (WVAL) launched Arts Fest 2009, music and theater were featured along with artwork by its members.

This year, the number of artist entries has soared from 40 to 70, including WVAL members and others from area arts organizations.

Featured Musicians

"Along with the Fest's extraordinary number of artist entries, we are also very pleased to announce our musical headliners," said Julie Ray, who is co-chairing the event with Deborah Elliott. Billy Crockett and Friends, Kevin Welch with special guest Fats Kaplin, and Jon Dee Graham will be featured performers in the afternoon. The headliner stage, located behind Wimberley Café on the square, is sponsored by Hill Country Guitars.

Billy Crockett

Billy Crockett is a veteran singer songwriter and founder and creative director of Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio in Wimberley. His most recent gig was the Dosey Doe in Houston, the Woodlands. At February's International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, he inspired audiences with folk-pop originals from his 2009 release, "Wishing Sky." He'll bring Billy Crockett and Friends to the Arts Fest stage. Billy Crockett's website.

Kevin Welch

Kevin Welch has been referred to as a 'songwriter's songwriter,' and a master guitarist. His songs have been recorded by Roger Miller, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy LaFave, The Highywaymen, Linda Ronstadt and the list goes on. His fans say they still prefer his renditions. Welch's new album on Music Road Records will be available at the Arts Fest. Kevin Welch's website.

Jon Dee Graham

Jon Dee Graham is known simply as an Austin music legend. Appropriately he was the headliner of the KUT broadcast from Momo's during SXSW. His new album, "It's Not as Bad as it Looks," is his sixth, and he is a three-time inductee to the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Graham says despite his many musical connections to Wimberley, this will his first gig here. Jon Dee Graham's website.

In addition, a full roster of musicians from Wimberley's rich trove of talent will fill the Fest with music all day long. The complete musical line-up will be announced soon.

Classical music lovers will enjoy a mini-concert by the Starlight Symphony Orchestra on the stage behind Cypress Creek Café.
